Case 1. CSVP 2026-3302 (NTU2024-1918, NTU GIMCP, C.Y. Tsai, W.H. Huang, Y.C. Chang, and H.W. Chang)

Feline, Munchkin, 6-year-old, male castrated. The patient was diagnosed with OD uveitis and FIP in April 2019. OD secondary cataract was noted in July 2019 and progressed to phthisis bulbi by October 2022. An OD iris mass was identified in September 2024; the lesion was unresponsive to steroids and continued to progress. Enucleation was performed in October 2024.

Morphological diagnosis:

Eye: Osteosarcoma, extraskeletal (intraocular), w/ uveal cysts and fibrovascular proliferation, lymphoplasmacytic uveitis, lens rupture, retinal degeneration and detachment, tapetum lucidum hyperplasia, the right eye

Feline ocular post-traumatic sarcoma (FOPTS)

Dx. : Intraocular osteosarcoma in a cat

        Crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela), adult, female, multifocal nodular lesions in various organs.

Morphological diagnosis:

Necro-granuloma, multifocal to coalescing and diffuse, chronic, severe, with intralesional acid fast positive bacterial colonies, spleen, liver, lungs, pancreas, adrenal gland, kidney, air sac, intestine, bone marrow etc.

Pneumonia, liquefied necrosis, locally-extensive, chronic, massive, with intralesional fungal hyphae and calcium oxalate, lungs

Enteritis, multifocal, chronic, moderate, with intralesional Ascaris sp., jejunum, ileum

Necrosis, moderate, chronic, with Sarcocystis sp. infection and calcinosis, skeletal muscle

Tetrameres sp. infections, mild, chronic, with intralesional nematodes, proventriculus  

Lab. examination :

Acid-fast bacilli stain : (+)

PCR : Mycobacterium avium (+) in the lungs, liver, heart tissues

        Suckling piglets, 3-week-old, showed clinical signs of yellowish-white diarrhea and weight loss. One of them showed dysentery. The morbidity was approximately 20%, and the mortality was approximately 10-15%.

Mouse, Ptch1+/−, 6-month-old, female. The mouse presented protruding skull and loss of righting reflex.

Cerebellum: The neoplasm is usually composed of a fairly uniform, closely packed, round to polygonal cell population, often arranged in cell dense sheets or bands. There is a scanty vascular stroma. Nuclei are usually small, elongate, hyperchromatic, densely packed and without apparent cytoplasm. Small, dark blue cells irregularly arranged and with rare neuroblastic Homer–Wright rosette‐like formation. Mitotic figures are about 2 per 400× HPF, while the PI can be up to 40%.

Lab. examination :

Mouse strains having targeted mutations of the tumor suppressor genes (Trp53 and Ptch1)

IHC: neuronal marker panel of SYN, NeuN, and MAP‐2 (+)

Dx: Medulloblastoma in a Ptch1^+/− mouse

Case 6. CSVP 2026-3307 (CM25-12007, ADDC NCHU, Y.H. Lee, H.Y. Chiou, and F.H. Hou)

        Gilts, 7~8-month-old, exhibited an acute onset of symptoms, including dyspnea, nasal discharge, vomiting, and hematochezia便血. The outbreak resulted in a 33% mortality rate (3/9).

Morphological diagnosis:

1.        Ulcerative typhlocolitis, with mucosal hemorrhage and eosinophils infiltration in lamina propria, subacute to chronic, diffuse, severe, cecum and colon.

2.        Eosinophilic ileitis, subacute, diffuse, severe, with Balatidia coli ileum.

3.        Broncho-interstitial pneumonia, subacute, diffuse, mild, lung.

Lab. examination :

Fecal Examination: Direct Fecal Smear : Trichuris suis (+)

Bact (liver. lung) : (-)

RT-PCR : Brachyspira hyodysenteriae (-) ; Lawsonia intracellularis (-) ; PRRS (+) ; PCV2 (+)

Dx: Trichuriasis and PRRSV infection in gilts
